  • Sunglasses must not be worn or appear on the subject’s head.

Head Coverings and Facial Visibility

  • Coverings, hair, headdress, hats, scarves, headbands, bandanas, or facial ornamentation must not obscure the face.
  • Face coverings are permitted only for religious or medical reasons.
  • Where face coverings are permitted, the full facial features from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead and both edges of the face must be clearly visible.

Background and Objects

  • The photograph must have a plain, light-coloured background.
  • The photograph must not include any other people.
  • The photograph must not include chair backs or other objects.

Lighting, Exposure, and Colour Balance

  • The lighting must be uniform.
  • There must be no shadows on the face or background.
  • There must be no reflections on the face, eyeglasses, or background.
  • The subject’s eyes must not show red-eye.
  • The photograph must have appropriate brightness.
  • The photograph must have appropriate contrast.
