Photo age, size, and framing
The photograph must have been taken within the last six months.
It must be between 35 mm and 45 mm in width.
The photograph must be a close-up of your head and the top of your shoulders, with your face taking up approximately 70% to 80% of the photograph.
Image quality
The photograph must be sharp, clear, and in focus.
It must be high quality, with no ink marks, creases, blurring, or pixelation.
The photograph must be printed at high resolution on high-quality photo paper.

Colour, brightness, and contrast
The photograph must be in colour and have neutral colours.
Your skin tones must appear natural.
The photograph must have appropriate brightness and contrast, and it must not be too dark, too light, or washed out.
Background and lighting
The photograph must be taken against a plain, light-coloured background.
The lighting must be uniform across the photograph.
There must be no shadows or flash reflections on your face, and the photograph must not show red eye.
Face position and visibility
You must face squarely towards the camera.
You must not look over one shoulder, tilt your head, or look away from the camera.
Both edges of your face must be clearly visible.
Your eyes must be open and clearly visible, with no hair covering them.
Expression and appearance
You must look directly at the camera with a neutral expression and your mouth closed.
You must appear alone in the photograph. No chair backs, toys, other people, or distracting objects must be visible.
Glasses
If you wear glasses, the photograph must show your eyes clearly.
There must be no flash reflection on the lenses, and tinted lenses are not allowed.
The frames must not cover any part of your eyes. If possible, heavy frames should be avoided, and lighter-framed glasses should be worn instead.
Head coverings
Head coverings are not permitted unless they are worn for religious reasons.
If you wear a head covering for religious reasons, your facial features must still be clearly visible from the bottom of your chin to the top of your forehead
