A new coloured photograph must be submitted for every new application. For hardcopy submissions, the printed photograph must be on matte or semi-matte (non-reflective) photo paper. All photographs must comply with ICA’s requirements. Failure to comply may delay or result in rejection of the application.

Printed Photo Requirements

• Printed photos must measure 35 mm wide × 45 mm high.

• The face (from chin to crown) must measure between 25 mm and 35 mm, and it must be centered within the frame.

• Photos must be printed on matte or semi-matte (non-reflective) photo paper.

Digital Photo Requirements

• Digital photos submitted via e-Services must measure 400 × 514 pixels.

• Accepted file formats are jpg, jpeg, heic, heif, and png.

• The maximum file size allowed is 8 MB.

Common Requirements

• The photograph must be taken within the last three months, in full colour, with even brightness so that the face is clearly visible.

• The image must be clear, sharp, and not pixelated, with both shoulders and the full head of hair shown in the frame.

• A neutral facial expression with the mouth closed is required, and the applicant’s eyes must be fully visible while looking directly at the camera.

• The background must be plain white with no shadows or patterns, and if headgear is worn, it must be dark in colour and must not obscure any facial features.

• Spectacles may be worn only if they have clear, untinted lenses through which the eyes are clearly visible, and only non-coloured contact lenses are allowed with no red eye effect visible.

• The photo must not be distorted or flipped, since flipping can alter identifiable features such as hair or moles.
