Photo Size
Each visa applicant must submit a photo that measures 35 mm x 45 mm, or 1 3/8 inches x 1 3/4 inches.
The applicant’s head must be centered within the frame.
Face Position and Expression
The applicant must face the camera directly.
The face must be square to the camera, with the applicant looking straight ahead rather than looking down or to either side.
Side views and angled views are not accepted.
The applicant must have a neutral facial expression. The applicant must not smile or frown, and the mouth must be closed.
Face Coverage and Head Visibility
The applicant’s face should cover approximately 50 percent of the photo area.
In general, the applicant’s head, including both the face and hair, should be visible from the crown of the head to the tip of the chin, and from one side of the hairline to the other.
Lighting and Background
The photo must be clear, sharp, and well defined.
It must be taken against a plain white or light-colored background.
The lighting must not create distracting shadows on the applicant’s face or on the background.
Eyewear and Face Coverings
Sunglasses or any other items that distract from the face are not acceptable.
Exceptions may be allowed only when the item is required for medical reasons, such as an eye patch.
Individual Photo Requirement
Group photos are not accepted. Since a separate visa is issued to each qualified applicant, each applicant must submit an individual photo.
Photo Quality
Photocopied photographs are not accepted.
Each submitted photo must be an original, clear photograph that meets all visa photo requirements.
