General requirements

  • The photo must be taken within the last 6 months before you submit the application.
  • Do not wear head coverings, dark glasses, or anything else that could make it hard to identify you.
  • The photo must show your full head, including the top, and the upper part of your shoulders.
  • Your face should take up 70-80% of the image.
  • Keep a neutral expression with your mouth closed.

Glasses and visual impairments

  • If you wear prescription glasses, you may keep them on as long as your eyes are clearly visible, the frames do not cover your eyebrows, and the lenses do not reflect light.
  • If you wear contact lenses, they are allowed only if they do not change the natural shape or color of your eyes.
  • If you have a congenital or acquired visual impairment, you may wear dark glasses. In that case, include a certificate confirming your disability level with your application.

Facial hair

  • Beards, mustaches, and other facial hair are allowed as long as they do not make identification difficult.
  • To avoid possible issues, it is safer to take the photo without facial hair.

Head coverings

  • Religious head coverings are allowed if your full face remains visible.
  • You must attach a certificate confirming membership in a religious community registered in Poland.
  • The full outline of the face and the ear line must remain visible.

Jewelry

  • Jewelry is allowed if it does not cover your face or disturb the plain background.

Face position and expression

  • Face the camera directly.
  • Do not tilt your head.
  • Your face must not be shown in half-profile.
  • Keep a natural expression, close your mouth, and make sure your eyebrows are visible.
  • Your eyes must be open, clearly visible, and looking straight at the camera.
  • Hair must not cover your pupils.
  • Red-eye is not allowed.
  • Ears do not need to be visible.
  • Your hairstyle may extend beyond the photo frame.
  • If a medical condition prevents you from meeting these rules, your eyes may be closed, your mouth open, or your expression may be non-neutral.

Background and lighting

  • The background must be white, evenly lit, and free from shadows or decorative elements.
  • Your face must be evenly lit, with no glare on the skin or hair and no shadows on the face.
  • No other person may appear in the photo.

Sharpness and quality

  • The photo must be sharp, without visible pixels, and have natural contrast.
  • The outline of the head must be clear, and the background must not be overexposed.
  • Colors should be neutral, and brightness should not be too dark or too light.
  • The photo must not be damaged, cracked, or worn.
  • Skin tone must appear natural.

Photos of children under 5

  • A child may have closed eyes, an open mouth, or a non-neutral expression.
  • The child’s face must remain fully visible and not be covered by hair or toys.
  • The child’s head should be straight.
  • The background must be light and plain, with no other people visible.

Photo format

  • Online application: submit a color digital photo with:
    • minimum resolution: 768 × 1004 pixels
    • maximum file size: 2.5 MB
    • proportions matching 35 × 45 mm
  • Office application: submit a printed color photo sized 35 × 45 mm
