Background

• The photo must be taken in front of a plain white or light-colored background.

Composition and framing

• The photo must clearly show your head and the top of your shoulders. 
• Your face should take up about 70 to 80 percent of the image. 
• Only you should appear in the photo, and no other people or objects, such as chair backs, should be visible.

Image quality

• The photo must be sharp, clear, and of high quality. 
• It must not have any marks, creases, or other damage. 
• If it is taken with a digital camera, it must be a high-quality color image. The brightness and contrast must be appropriate, and your skin tone should look natural.

Pose and expression

• You must face the camera directly with your head straight. 
• You must not tilt your head or look to the side. 
• Both sides of your face must be visible. You must keep a neutral expression and your mouth closed.
