File Size And Format
The file size must be between 250KB and 5MB.
The image dimensions must be between 900 and 4500 pixels wide, and between 1200 and 6000 pixels high.
Your photo must not be a selfie; someone else must take it for you.
The photo must be taken in portrait orientation with a 4:3 aspect ratio, or 3:4 if using a smartphone.
The photo must be digital, as scans of printed photos are not accepted.
The photo must be in colour and saved in .jpg or .jpeg format.
Head And Face Position
Your head must be centered in the frame with space above and to the sides, and your shoulders and upper chest must be included.
Your entire face must be fully visible, with no tilt or turn, and your hair must be clear of your eyes and away from the sides of your face.
Background
The background must be plain and light in colour, such as light blue, grey, or cream.
You must stand at least half a metre away from the background, and there must be no people or objects behind you.
Expression
You must keep a neutral expression with your mouth closed and you must not smile.
Glasses and Headwear
You may wear prescription glasses only if they are not tinted or thick-framed, and your eyes must remain clearly visible with no glare or reflection.
You must not wear hats, hoods, headbands, or head coverings unless they are for religious or medical reasons and you have an endorsement in your passport.
If you do wear a permitted head covering, your face must still be fully visible.
Baby Photo
If the photo is of a baby, the baby must be lying flat on a plain, light-coloured sheet.
The photo of the baby must be taken from above, with the baby’s eyes open, the face in full view, and no people or objects visible in the background.
