  • No shadows on face or background.
  • No overexposure or underexposure.
  • No reflections on the face or from accessories.

Background

  • Light grey, light blue, or white.
  • Plain, uniform, and one shade.
  • Must contrast clearly with the face.

Glasses

  • Permitted, but eyes must be fully visible through transparent lenses.
  • No reflections, glare, or shadows caused by glasses.

Facial Appearance

  • Head uncovered.
  • Face and eyes fully visible.
  • Ears optional, but full width of the face must be shown.

Exceptions

  • Religious or belief-related head coverings: Allowed if plain, one colour, and contrasting with the background.
  • Children under 6: Do not need to meet rules on head position, alignment, shoulders, or facial expression. If supported, the support must not be visible.
  • Medical reasons: A medical certificate may be required if full compliance is not possible.

What is Allowed / Not Allowed

  • Allowed: beard, wig, hairstyle changes, long fringe (eyes and face still visible), glasses (optional), oxygen/feeding tube, lipstick, makeup, earrings.
  • Not allowed: cap or hat (except religious/medical reasons, plain one-colour only), child with eyes closed, same photo as in a previous document.
