Photo dimensions and framing

  • The photo must measure 35 mm wide by 45 mm high. 
  • The face must be 16 mm to 20 mm wide, excluding the ears. 
  • The face must be 26 mm to 30 mm long from the chin to the crown.
  • The head must be shown in full and must be centered in the photo.

Photo quality

  • The lighting must be even across the face and background. 
  • The photo must not be overexposed or underexposed. 
  • There must be no shadows on the face or in the background. 
  • There must also be no reflections on the face or caused by accessories.

Head position and posture

  • The applicant must face straight forward. 
  • The eyes must be horizontally aligned, the head must not be tilted, and the shoulders must be straight.

Background

  • The background must be light grey, light blue, or white. 
  • It must be plain, uniform, and all one color and shade. T
  • he background must also provide enough contrast with the head.

Glasses

  • Glasses are allowed, but the eyes must remain fully visible. 
  • The lenses must be fully transparent. 
  • There must be no distortion from reflection on the glasses and no shadow caused by them.

Facial appearance

  • The head must normally be uncovered. The face must be fully visible, and the eyes must also be fully visible. 
  • The ears do not need to be visible as long as the full width of the face can be seen.

Expression

  • The applicant must have a neutral expression. 
  • They must look straight at the camera, and their mouth must be closed.

Religious exception

  • Applicants who cover their head for religious or belief-based reasons may keep their head covering on in the photo. 
  • The head covering must be plain, one solid color, and must contrast with the background. 
  • Even with the covering, the face must remain fully visible.

Exception for physical or medical reasons

  • Applicants who cannot meet all of the requirements for physical or medical reasons may be exempt from some rules. 
  • If there is any doubt, the issuing authority may ask for a medical certificate as proof.
