General requirements

  • The two photographs must be identical.
  • The photographs must have been taken within the last six months.
  • The photographs must be professionally printed.

Size and composition

  • You must not trim or cut the photographs to meet the size requirement.
  • Each photograph must show a close-up of your head and shoulders.

Background and lighting

  • Each photograph must be taken against a light-coloured background so your features are clearly distinguishable.
  • There must be no shadows visible in the photograph.
  • There must be a strong, clear contrast between your face and the background.

Print quality and condition

  • Each photograph must be printed on low-gloss, plain white, photo-quality paper.
  • There must be no watermarks, embossing, or any printing on the back of the photograph.
  • The photographs must be clean and undamaged, and they must not show creases or marks (for example, from paperclips).
  • There must be no writing on the front or back of the photographs.

Who and what appears in the photo

  • Each photograph must show you on your own.
  • No other people, toys, dummies/pacifiers, or any other objects may be visible in the photograph.

Pose and expression

  • You must face forward and look directly at the camera.
  • You must maintain a neutral expression with your mouth closed.

Eyes and glasses

  • Your eyes must be open and clearly visible.
  • You must not wear sunglasses or heavily tinted glasses.
  • Your hair must not cover your eyes.
  • If you wear glasses, there must be no glare or reflection on the lenses, and the frames must not cover your eyes.
  • If necessary, you should remove your glasses to ensure your eyes are fully visible.

Head coverings and facial visibility

  • Your full head must be visible without any head covering, unless the covering is worn for religious reasons or medical reasons.
  • Nothing may cover your face, and the outline of your eyes, nose, and mouth must be clearly visible.

Additional requirements for children aged 5 and under

  • The same passport photo standards apply to babies and young children.
  • The child must be photographed against a light-coloured background so their features are clearly distinguishable.
  • The child must be photographed on their own, with no toys, dummies/pacifiers, or other people visible.
  • The child’s full face must be visible in the photograph.
  • Both of the child’s eyes must be open in the photograph.
