General Presentation
The photograph must provide a full and unobstructed view of the applicant’s entire frontal face, with all facial features clearly visible.
The photograph must be taken against a plain white background that contains no patterns, marks, textures, or shadows that could reduce the clarity of the image.
Size and Proportions
The photograph must measure exactly 40 millimeters in width and 50 millimeters in height.
Within this frame the vertical distance from the tip of the chin to the crown of the head must measure no less than 32 millimeters and no more than 36 millimeters, while leaving sufficient headroom to avoid the impression that the image has been cropped too tightly.
Dress and Appearance
Applicants must not wear any head covering unless it is required for daily religious purposes, and they should avoid heavy make-up as well as clothing that is excessively dark or excessively light in color.
Positioning and Obstructions
The face must be centered in the photograph
The eyes and eyebrows must remain fully visible without obstruction by eyeglass frames or hair.
Technical Quality
The photograph must not display flash reflections on the face or on glasses
The photograph must not contain shadows on either the face or the background
The photograph must not suffer from exposure problems that cause it to appear too bright or too dark.
Condition of the Photograph
Applicants must keep the physical photograph in perfect condition and must not fold it, staple it, write on its back, or attach it to an application form with a paper clip.
Digital Submission Standards
For applications submitted online or through the Immigration Department’s mobile app, the digital photograph must be in JPEG format.
File size must be no more than 5MB.
Resolution Requirements
If the photograph is scanned, it must be scanned at a resolution of 600 dpi from a printed original measuring 40 millimeters by 50 millimeters
if the photograph is captured with a digital camera, the resulting file must measure at least 1200 pixels in width by 1600 pixels in height to ensure adequate detail.
