PASSPORT PHOTO REQUIREMENTS

To apply for a new Austrian passport, photos must meet the following rules:

Size

  • 35 mm x 45 mm

Color

  • Medium saturation

  • Overexposed or underexposed photos are not accepted

  • Black and white photos are not allowed

Background

  • Plain white

Photo quality

  • Smooth, high-gloss paper without patterns or frames

Pose and expression:

  • Full front view of the face

  • Neutral expression

  • Head straight, eyes looking forward

  • Mouth closed

  • Glasses must be removed if they cause glare, reflections, or cover the eyes

For adults:

  • Distance between pupils: 10 mm

  • Eyes must be positioned above the horizontal center line of the photo

For infants:
Because of typical infant head shape:

  • Distance between pupils may be smaller

  • Eyes can be on or below the horizontal center line of the photo
